Perry Park Pavilion

Located on Gadigal Country in the former industrial suburb of Alexandria, the pavilion sits on the edge of Perry Park, home to a new FIFA sized playing field. The project is part of the City of Sydney’s 2030 vision to build active sports infrastructure across the city.

Recent amenities and pavilion buildings throughout our City have become prime examples of design excellence. Such pavilions in parks and open spaces are evidence of care and investment in the public domain and form a key part of the placemaking identity.

Jury Citation

“Perry Park Pavilion is an expert handling of the core elements of architecture in an act of civic placemaking.

Set beneath a canopy of mature Moreton Bay fig trees, the horizontal sculptural roof establishes a civic scale whilst amplifying the surrounding landscape setting. The building is organised with absolute clarity. An exposed steel structure supports the floating roof, providing shelter to a series of outdoor spaces and rooms that accommodate amenities, change facilities and storage for sports equipment.

The floating GRC roof, the first of its kind, maximises natural daylight through a series of fine glazed strips and allows airflow through an open perimeter below. Interiors are delightful, bathed in light and air. A restrained palette of robust materials is detailed with care and implemented with precision. The result is a new piece of community infrastructure that is beautiful inside and out.”
